Mashrafe Bin Mortaza is a Bangladeshi cricketer and current captain of
Bangladesh national cricket team for One Day match. Mashrafe Mortaza was born in the district of Narail in south-west
Bangladesh. He was more interested in cricket from childhood specially batting.
His bowling is now his main attribute and his pace has gained him the nickname
of the "Narail Express".
Mashrafe Mortaza broke into the national side in late 2001 against
Zimbabwe and represented Bangladesh before having played a single first-class
match. Mashrafe Mortaza
captained his country in one Test and seven One Day Internationals (ODIs)
between 2009 and 2010, whatever injury meant he was in and out of the side and
Shakib Al Hasan was appointed captain in Mortaza's absence.
Mashrafe Mortaza
is considered one of the fastest bowlers of Bangladesh. Mashrafe Mortaza is usually bowling in the mid-80s mph (130s km/h)
and regularly opens the bowling. Mortaza is
useful lower-middle order batsman with a first-class century and three Test
half centuries to his name. The cricket career of Mortaza has been hampered by
injuries. As on December 2014, he has undergone a total of ten operations on
his knees and ankles.
He
played for Kolkata Knight Riders for the 2009 Indian Premier League. Although
Kolkata Knight Riders paid him US$600,000 for playing, he played just one match
for them. In this match, he went for 58 runs in 4 over. Mortaza has also played
for Khulna Division in Bangladesh's domestic cricket.
While
Mashrafe Mortaza has represented
Bangladesh 36 times in Tests and in 124 ODIs between 2001 and 2012. Mashrafe Mortaza has played only
11 first-class and 9 list A matches for Khulna Division in same
period. Mortaza joined the Dhaka Gladiators in 2012 in the newly
formed Bangladesh Premier League twenty20 competition and captained them to the
tournament title.
In
April 2008, he became the second Bangladesh bowler to take 100 wickets in
ODIs and the first fast bowler from the Bangladesh team to pass this landmark. Mortaza
was acclaimed as the fastest bowler for a long time that Bangladesh had
produced. At present Shahadat Hossain is considered quicker bowler of
Bangladesh Team.
Mashrafi Mortaza uses aggressive bowling to challenge batsmen.
As a naturally aggressive player of Bangladesh team, his accurate bowling has
led to comparisons with the Australian fast-bowler Glenn McGrath. After his
knee injury, Mortaza was forced to alter his bowling action slightly and lost
some pace. Mortaza has tried to
develop his use of reverse swing in an attempt to become a more effective
bowler. To know more about Mashrafe
